Home Under the Dome

“Where Love Lives,” Home Under the Dome is a ministry that honors those with memory loss through activities and fellowship. As a caregiver, we get it. You need some time to yourself. We want to give you time back with peace of mind, knowing that your loved one is safely cared for.

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am - 2pm

Located in the Sanctuary’s Gathering Room

What is a respite care ministry?

This ministry provides participants a safe and socially connected environment. This is a social ministry and no medical care is provided. Home Under the Dome is open to all denominations and members of the community affected by memory loss who meet the admission criteria.

Caring for a family member or loved one is gratifying, but it is also challenging. Home Under the Dome Respite Ministry is designed to relieve the caregivers for free time so they can:

  • Run Errands
  • Take care of business
  • Relax

Caregivers enjoy peace of mind knowing their loved ones are cared for in a safe and loving environment. Information on a caregiver support group and community resources will be made available to the care partner.

Admission Criteria

Participation in the program will be based on the applicant’s ability to participate and the initial interview with the director.

Participants must be independent in the following:

  • Ambulating
  • Attending to their own bathroom needs
  • Participating in social activities
  • Feeding themselves

We require a completed medical examination from the participant’s physician and a list of current medications. Caregivers are invited to call and schedule a tour of Home Under the Dome Respite Care Ministry prior to enrollment.

First United Methodist Church was my spiritual home when I lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and Pastor Claire Dobbs and the team made everyone feel welcome. The team went above and beyond to provide a engaging worship, fellowship, and discipleship experiences, and their service to the community is a model that we all should strive to follow.
Jess Waltman
Wonderful church that is active in service to our community. My family and I are so thankful that we decided to try this church out 11 years ago. Claire and Jill do a great job leading us and the people are welcoming and willing to serve!
Bob Reeves
I love being a member of FUMC. Everyone is so welcoming and it’s easy to plug in. People don’t judge when you walk in the door. Our church really has a “come as you are” attitude, and I think that’s my favorite part. I love our pastors and music team as well!
Nathan Powell
I came to FUMC about 12 years ago thanks to a friend, and I am so thankful I did. The two pastors, Claire and Jill, are absolutely amazing! They make you feel welcomed, valued, and engaged from the moment you arrive. If you’re looking for a church home where you are truly loved for who you are, this is your place. God’s love abounds here!
